Employer Quote Region
"Employer 1: I've noticed—and maybe this is me aging because I'm sure my parents said the same thing of me—but it feels like the new group has a better balance in life. They're not as driven. They're very comfortable with how the workplace feels to them. They're not as driven by starting compensation or their raise. They're willing to leave at 5pm. They're not chasing the next project. We're thinking of the fact that we have these baby boomers retiring with all this experience, and to replace them is probably going to take two employees to one. Not only with the loss in experience, but the hours. I mean, we have people that work 3,000 hours a year. The average now, coming in for us, is probably 2,300—which is what we require. So, they'll meet the requirement or they'll meet the expectation, but they do not have an inner desire to go beyond the expectation. And I think we need to adjust or you're going to burn people even quicker.

Interviewer: Or people won't want to work? I mean, they'll go someplace where they can find that environment, I suppose.

Employer 3: That's being seen in the healthcare field, too. Doctors are joining the specialties where they don't have to take calls and work hard. So, I think it's a societal thing.

Employer 2: I think it's that these generations saw their parents work hard and then they get screwed by getting laid-off. And they're probably saying, 'You know what? I'm not doing that.' Or growing up in single-parent families because somebody was working too much. Societal changes based on our generation probably burning it at all ends."
