Know Your Education Options

There are many ways to learn skills for your career. You can go to school at an Adult Basic Education Center. Or try one of the other options below.

An Adult Basic Education Center is just one of many places you can go to learn. At an ABE Center, you can take classes in English, reading, writing, or math. You can also study for the GED tests there, or get job training.

But did you know there are other places to learn, and other types of job training?

On-The-Job Training

On-the-job training means that you get the job first, and then you learn how to do that job. Many different kinds of jobs offer on-the-job training. You do not have to have work experience to get hired in these jobs. The company will teach you what they want you to know.

Apprenticeship Programs

An apprenticeship is for anyone interested in learning a skilled craft or trade. It is a formal way to gain skills on the job. It often has a specific number of hours you must finish. It is always paid. An apprenticeship combines on-the-job training with classroom learning.

Online Training

Online training means you use the Internet and a computer to learn instead of going to a classroom. You talk to the teacher and get all the information you need online. Are you good at using a computer? Do you think you can learn well online? If your answers are "yes," then you can look for an online program to help you learn job skills.

College Programs

After you've completed your GED there are many options to learn more in college. You can go to college to take one class, or enroll in a program that takes a few months or a few years to complete. College programs can help you learn skills to advance your career.
